Welcome to KPJ Counselling

My decision to become a qualified counsellor in 2006 was inspired by my own experience of seeking support during a challenging period of my life. At the time, I felt stuck, confused, and alone. With the help of an amazing counsellor, I discovered the clarity and strength to move forward and take control of my life. That journey taught me an invaluable truth: you are the author of your own story, and you have the power to shape it. My role is to walk alongside you as you navigate your path, providing the tools and support you need to rediscover your inner strength and create meaningful change.

Life’s challenges can feel overwhelming, but counselling offers a safe and supportive space to explore those difficulties and begin to heal. My approach is rooted in an integrative model, blending different therapeutic methods to meet your unique needs. These include:

  • Person-Centred Therapy: A warm, nonjudgmental space where you can freely explore your feelings at your own pace. This approach empowers you to lead the process, with me as a compassionate guide.

  • Psychodynamic Therapy: Uncovering and understanding how past experiences may be shaping your current thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. This deeper insight helps us identify and work through recurring patterns.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Collaborating to challenge unhelpful thought patterns and develop practical strategies for managing challenges and building resilience.

  • Therapeutic Play: For younger clients, creative and playful techniques provide an outlet to explore emotions, process experiences, and find pathways to healing.

This flexible, integrative approach ensures that your journey is supported in a way that feels both effective and comfortable for you. Whether we’re exploring your past, building practical skills for the present, or using creative methods to express emotions, every step is tailored to your individual needs.

Counselling isn’t always an easy process, but together, we will work at a pace that feels right for you. With commitment, honesty, and trust, we can navigate life’s challenges and uncover a clearer, brighter path forward.

What I’ve Learned Over 18 Years

In my 18 years of working as a counsellor, I’ve had the privilege of helping individuals and couples from diverse backgrounds. Through these experiences, I’ve discovered three essential truths about the counselling journey:

  1. The desire for change is the first step. By seeking out this space, you’ve already taken a courageous step toward creating the change you want in your life. That decision alone is a powerful act of self-care and determination.

  2. Self-discovery is a lifelong process. Counselling provides the opportunity for reflection and growth, helping you deepen your self-awareness and understanding. This awareness forms the foundation for making realistic and meaningful changes.

  3. There is no quick fix in counselling. True and lasting change requires time, effort, and patience. As human beings, we are naturally wired to resist change, but with dedication and the right tools, transformation is possible.
